“The Black Cat” was first published in The Saturday Evening Post in August of 1843—the same year that “The Gold Bug” won Poe a $100 prize and publication in the Philadelphia Dollar Newspaper. This edition is letterpress printed, and includes two original illustrations by tattooist John Reardon, illustrator of EDGAR ALLAN POE: TALES, MYSTERIES & CONTRIVANCES. “The Black Cat” was included as part of the Thornwillow Dispatch in June 2020.
